Artificial intelligence is persistently reshaping every aspect of technology. AI can do everything infallibly, from creating stunning websites and fixing bugs in coding to developing new works of art.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT stunning entry has taken the tech industry by storm. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. Many AI softwares are in line to enter the market. And the recent knock on the tech door is from Microsoft, i.e. Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Microsoft 365 Copilot, which integrated ChatGPT internally and was introduced on March 16, 2023, is now available throughout all of Microsoft 365. This includes Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and more. And now we’re getting a glimpse of how generative AI will be used more widely in the future—and it’s not only as a chatbot.

Let’s have a deeper look at Microsoft 365 Copilot.

What Is Microsoft 365 Copilot?

Microsoft 365 Copilot is a cutting-edge AI assistant built on OpenAI’s GPT4. Microsoft 365 powerhouses like Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and more will benefit from the synergy of this artificial intelligence with core business data.

According to the company’s announcement, Copilot combines the strengths of large language models (LLMs) with the information you have stored in the Microsoft Graph ( It serves as a central hub for all the cloud-based data) and the Office 365 apps. In addition, the Microsoft Graph API allows programs to make data connections and boost productivity while using Microsoft services.

Overall, Microsoft’s 365 Copilot is a solution that integrates the following three technologies:

  • The Office apps like Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • Microsoft Graph and all the data and history associated with your business or organization.
  • The Large Language Model (LLM) for GPT-4 can read, interpret, and generate natural-sounding language.

According to Microsoft Corporate Vice President Jared Spataro –

Copilot is more than OpenAI’s ChatGPT embedded into Microsoft 365. It’s a sophisticated processing and orchestration engine working behind the scenes to combine the power of LLMs, including GPT-4, with the Microsoft 365 apps and your business data in the Microsoft Graph — now accessible to everyone through natural language.”

Besides, Microsoft also released a new feature called Business Chat, characterized as a “knowledge navigator” by Spataro and available via Teams, Bing, or Microsoft365.com.

According to Jared Spataro-

“Business Chat works across the LLM, the Microsoft 365 apps, and your data — your calendar, emails, chats, documents, meetings, and contacts — to do things you’ve never been able to do before. You can give it natural language prompts like “Tell my team how we updated the product strategy,” “It will generate a status update based on the morning’s meetings, emails, and chat threads.”

Usage Of Microsoft 365’s Copilot: What’s the Deal?

The chatbot integrates with the standard Microsoft 365 applications for user interaction. If you provide Copilot a natural language command, it will create the document or answer immediately after you enter a prompt. Microsoft provides various application-specific examples of its use, including:

1. Microsoft Word

Based on your input, Copilot will generate a first copy or draft. Here comes the Microsoft Graph running in the background; Copilot may get data from internal documents that several teams have collaborated on in the organization. With this, you can modify or update your document based on your required formats, formal or informal.

2. Microsoft Excel

Copilot can use natural language prompts to provide answers that previously required sophisticated formulae. Ask it to provide alternative visualizations, forecasts, and suggestions, and it will do so without making any changes to the spreadsheet.

3. Microsoft Outlook

Copilot can retrieve conversations from email threads and information throughout Microsoft 365 and promptly respond to regular emails. Copilot also allows you to change the tone and frequency of your replies.

4. Microsoft Teams

The agenda and timing of meetings may be managed via Copilot. Aside from being an efficient conversation facilitator, the chatbot will be able to weigh the benefits and drawbacks of any given topic and recommend the right course of action.

5. Business Chat

This innovative solution can access your calendar, email, online conversations, files, and attendance records. Use it as a centralized hub for all project-related questions and strategies to improve teamwork.

Streamline Your Process With Microsoft 365 Copilot

Based on the AI principles and the Responsible AI Standard and years of study, Microsoft has developed Microsoft 365 Copilot to ensure the privacy and security of corporate data. Microsoft 365 Copilot’s AI will be ready for the enterprise when implemented at scale. And the key to successfully collaborating with AI is in the directions (prompts) you give it and the knowledge you bring to bear on analyzing the data it generates.

Above all, Microsoft 365 Copilot is more than just a chatbot, it is an assistant that may free up time from mundane activities so that you can think more critically about the facts at hand.
