Listen to the blog...

Ah, yes! You might remember we discussed and speculated about Google’s secret code, Project Magi, in one of our previous thoughtful thirstday blogs. Today, we will cover the first look of it.

For nearly twenty years, Google Search has maintained unparalleled market dominance, establishing itself as the preeminent tool for online information retrieval.

But after the arrival of ChatGPT and its integration with Bing, which has recently incorporated the capabilities of generative AI to deliver more intelligent search outcomes, Google has been facing intense competition.

Well, maintaining its dominance, Google has prepared to make a big jump in the market.

During the I/O 2023 conference, the renowned search engine giant unveiled that Google Search will have advanced AI capabilities. These cutting-edge features will empower users to conduct searches with greater efficiency, understand complex subjects at an accelerated pace, and easily acquire diverse insights.

And these latest advancements in Google’s search technology have been referred to as Search Generative Experience (SGE).

Let’s dive deeper and check what will change in the world of Google searches after SGE..!!

New Google Search Generative Experience

Discover The Exciting New Google Search Experience

1. The Sleek Interface

The user interface has undergone significant change. Instead of getting a list of web pages in response to a search or your query, you will now get an AI-generated solution to your question.

Google provides links to the sources it relied on to find the solution. You may learn more by visiting those links. You can ask a follow-up question or click the toggle icon in the upper right to learn more.

According to Google, “you’ll see an AI-powered snapshot of key information to consider, with links to dig deeper.”

The toggle function is triggered upon clicking the expand button to display a more comprehensive response. This action prompts the generative AI to provide additional responses.

In the search results provided by AI, Google presents websites in visually appealing, clickable boxes, allowing users to seamlessly navigate to the desired website for further information.

According to Google, the generative AI answer box will undergo a color change to correspond with distinct journey types and query intent.

2. AI-powered vertical Search

The Search’s generative AI technology is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the products you are interested in buying. This feature can be particularly useful when making complex purchase decisions, as it can help you make faster and more informed choices.

During a product search, you will receive a summary of important factors to consider and a list of products that meet your criteria.

The product descriptions you receive will contain important and current information such as reviews, ratings, prices, and product images. The new generative AI shopping experience is based on Google’s Shopping Graph, which is a vast dataset of over 35 billion product listings.

This makes it the most comprehensive and constantly updated information collection on products, sellers, brands, reviews, and inventory worldwide.

It is interesting to note that Google’s Shopping Graph updates over 1.8 billion listings every hour, ensuring that users receive up-to-date and trustworthy search results.

3. The Diverse Array of Sources, References, and Links

To verify the accuracy of the information, it is common for users to conduct thorough research on Google and gather various insights. Following Google’s recent AI update, users will be presented with AI-generated answers to their queries.

Additionally, the source of the information will also be provided to users, allowing for a more thorough analysis of the information received.

Google has announced that search ads will continue to appear to ensure that users can easily locate their desired products without any inconvenience.

Upon the launch of Bard by Google, many users were surprised by the absence of citations and links to publishers. Discovering hyperlinks from Google Bard leading to publishers’ websites is uncommon.

In the context of the publishing industry, SGE offers a more sustainable approach to linking with publishers and promoting the overall ecosystem.

4. The ‘Perspectives’ Feature for More Diverse Search Experience

This latest feature in Google’s AI update is designed to emphasize extended videos, images, and written content from online forums (Reddit), question-and-answer websites (quora), and social media networks when displaying search results.

The ‘Perspectives’ feature is Google’s newest addition to their generative AI suite.

The feature has been thoughtfully crafted to enhance users’ understanding of various topics by leveraging the insights and viewpoints of others, thereby providing a more personal and relatable dimension to digital content.

Google claims that its ‘Perspectives’ feature would improve the quality of review content in search results by assigning more weight to reviews written by people with first-hand experience with a product or by people with extensive expertise in a certain field.

5. The Technology and Responsibilities

According to Google, the latest search experience leverages a diverse range of Large Language Models (LLMs), encompassing MUM and PaLM2, among others.

According to Google, “This search experience was purposely trained to carry out tasks specific to Search, including identifying high-quality web results that corroborate the information presented in the output”

According to Liz Reid, the Vice President of Search at Google, the search engine may not provide answers to all of your inquiries to deliver responsible outcomes. Google is implementing cautionary measures with their latest version of Google Search, which will display results for secure search queries.

And the major example of this is Medical space. If you want to give medicine to your child and search about it on Google, then Google’s recent AI update says it will avoid such search queries.

Besides, Google’s search AI will not showcase the results related to Financial terms as it involves monetary risk.

According to Google, they have implemented a new search experience that emphasizes the accuracy and reliability of the information provided in response to certain queries where information quality is of utmost importance. The updated search experience prioritizes generating informative responses supported by credible sources.

How To Sign Up For Google’s Search Generative Experience?

Google has stated that to indicate your interest, you should click on the Labs icon in either the Google app or Chrome desktop.

Google will begin extending invitations to individuals to test its services in a few weeks, which will be shared in stages.

Thoughts

Google’s recent AI update is a huge boon to the company’s ability to interpret natural language and provide better results to users in Search. Google’s commitment to the cutting-edge interface, searchability, openness, privacy, and responsible AI methods is admirable, and we should be mindful of these issues even as we enthusiastically embrace AI’s promise.

It’s time to wait for the next big Google update.
